Mark Morrison

Mark Morrison (Austin, TX) is the retired managing editor for BusinessWeek, a position he held for 12 years. During his tenure as managing editor, Morrison directed day-to-day operations of the magazine, which won four National Magazine Awards, four Gerald Loebs, and 11 Overseas Press Club Awards. During those years, BusinessWeek launched its online site, its weekly television show, and SmallBiz.
Morrison joined BusinessWeek in 1974 as a correspondent in the Houston bureau. He held posts as Cleveland bureau manager and Chicago bureau manager before moving to New York in 1984 as a senior editor responsible for the magazine’s coverage of companies and people. In 1989 he was named assistant managing editor, and supervised several BusinessWeek departments, including The Corporation, Marketing, Management, Personal Business, Social Issues, and Transportation. After stepping down from the managing editor’s post in 2005, Morrison became the National Correspondent based out of Austin, Texas covering a wide range of management, corporate, people, and finance subjects before retiring from BusinessWeek in late 2006.
Prior to joining BusinessWeek, Morrison was a reporter for the Houston Post. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas, where he was editor of The Daily Texan. He was a long-time member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and the Overseas Press Club. While at BusinessWeek, he received the McGraw-Hill Excellence in Leadership Award. He was a regular financial and economic commentator on CNN and a frequent participant in BusinessWeek conferences and broadcasts.
Morrison is currently a lecturer in the School of Journalism in the College of Communication and a member of the College of Communication Advisory Council. He is a member of the Headliners Foundation Board of Governors and the KLRU Community Advisory Council. He also serves as moderator of the Captains of Industry panel series for the Headliners Club of Austin.
