Organizations/Associations

The British Academy of Film & Television Arts - BAFTA is a membership-led organisation that runs awards ceremonies (covering Film, Television, Children's and Interactive Entertainment) as well as events on topical issues for both members and non-members.

Production Guild - Site of the Production Guild, focusing on the 'commerce' aspect of the British film industry. Aims to support the British Film Commission in creating jobs and work in the UK. Site includes Diary of Events, Information on business and promotional strategy, Membership information and Members message board.

Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union - BECTU is the independent union for those working in broadcasting, film, theatre, entertainment, leisure, interactive media and allied industries who are primarily based in the United Kingdom. The union represents permanently employed, contract and freelance workers within these industries. Site holds current news stories, details of various employment agreements, careers advice, diary of relevant events and links.

New Producers Alliance - Site of the NPA, the 'national membership and training organisation for independent new producers', which supports, encourages and enables new filmmakers. Site provides informatiom on training, services, events, membership and newsletter sent to members monthly.

North West Filmmakers Society - This E-mail forum is for film and TV makers based in the Merseyside, Manchester, Cheshire, and North Wales areas, and cover the gamut of production personnel; i.e. editors, writers, actors, make-up, composers, directors, runners etc. Everything from periodical meetings, crewing up, and general advice and support.

Hidden Extras - Supported by BECTU, Equity and Pact, this useful site is a charge-free directory for extras. Provides background information, guidelines and advice on joining an agency. Also includes rules and regulations for extras from BBC, Pact, Equity etc, a list of agencies, details of rates, and explanation of production crews. Plus email option.

Shooting People - The Shooting People UK Filmmakers Network has progressed beyond this initial e-mailed daily digest. Members can now post messages on and subscribe to the UK Filmmakers Network, UK Casting Network, UK Screenwriters Network, UK Script Pitch Network, UK Animation Network, UK Documentary Network, and the UK Music Video Network. Free subscription allows you to read 3-day old postings whereas paid membership allows you to submit postings, read new postings, read the Essential Guides, search the postings archives, look at the sample budgets and contracts, and actors can create online personal CVs with a photograph.

Film Centre - Site provides pages of links and information for film-makers in the UK. Film equipment can be hired and site offers information on film courses, faq, and personnel working or wanting to work in UK independent film production. Holds 3 databases - short films, actors and crew.

Film Market - Film Market is a database of independent films and TV programmes for sale and seeking distribution. This free service allows a user to create a promotional window for their film.
