Professor Elected Vice-President of International Association of Relationship Research
AUSTIN, Texas—Aug. 3, 2009—Anita Vangelisti, the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Professor in Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, has been elected vice-president of the International Association for Relationship Research (IARR). She will become president in July, just prior to the association’s meeting in Israel next year.
Vangelisti is a renowned scholar who studies interpersonal communication in the context of close, personal relationships such as those in families. Her research examines how communication affects, and is affected by, emotions and cognitive processes.
With more than 700 members, IARR is an international scholarly organization representing a range of disciplines, including communication, psychology, family studies, sociology, education, child development and gerontology, among others.
